The Official Source of The Ocicat Club

Welcome to the Ocicat Club Page

The Ocicat Club
is the only U.K. Cat Club specifically serving the interests of the Ocicat

About the Club

The Club was formed in December 1994 to pursue the recognition and acceptance of our lovely breed by the Cat Fancy in the UK, and to provide a friendly and helpful environment for this to occur.  We also try to provide information and advice relating to the breed for our members, and are interested in and concerned for the welfare of Ocicats in particular, but also for that of all cats.

The first Ocicats went on the Show Bench in the UK in late July 1997, when Preliminary Status was granted by the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy . The first UK Ocicats appeared here in the late 1980's.  The Standard of Points, Breeding Programme and Registration Policy have now been accepted by the GCCF  for Provisional Recognition, from June 2002.

We try to show and exhibit Ocicats whenever possible at the Shows.  We have a club table, manned by members, with, hopefully,  an Ocicat on Exhibition, at all Shows possible, and we hope that Ocicat Club Classes will be accepted at least at all major shows.

The Ocicat Newsletter, the "Ocicat Muse", appears two/three times a year.  The Editor always welcomes articles, items of interest for "Spot Press", your own cat stories (we all have them, don't we?), and we can reproduce photographs, if you would like fellow members to met the Ocicat that owns you!

Why do we like the Ocicat?

Because it is an instantly recognizable, beautifully spotted cat with all the looks of a wild cat combined with the good nature of a domestic cat - “a purr wrapped in polka dots”

clockcat

Ocicat - so it must have been bred from the Ocelot? Not at all! There is no problematic wild blood in this magnificent muscular cat but it did get its name from its resemblance to the spotted jungle ocelot. It has a short close coat with a satin sheen and spots pour over shoulders, back, sides, tummy and legs. This lively, athletic, highly intelligent cat comes in twelve glorious colours, ranging from tawny and black silver through glowing chocolates, to blues, lilacs, cinnamons, fawns and their silver derivatives. The Ocicat has a strong but loving personality and is very loyal and affectionate to its owner(s). It will follow you from room to room and in the right surroundings loves to go on walks with you.

ABBY AND WILLOW

An e-mail we thought you might enjoy came from Lynne Gower about her daughter:

I just thought I'd tell you what Abby said about Willow in the Cat Show -

"Mum, I think Willow will win at the Cat Show."
"Really Abby, why do you say that?"
"Well....he's special because he's got tusks hasn't he?"
".......um.......tusks???"
"Yes, tusks on top of his ears!"

We know she meant 'tufts, don't we!  This is a picture of the delightful Abby when she came to visit Willow and some of the other kittens before he went to live with her and her family:

Merchandise

Club Badges - These enamel pin badges, about 4cm across, consisting of the club logo, with 'Ocicat Club' scrolled below, are available in three colours - tawny, cinnamon and black silver.  The price is £2.50 each or £7 if you would like all three.  They can be purchased from the Club Table at Shows, or send a stout stamped addressed envelope with your cheque, made out to 'The Ocicat Club',  to The Hon. We have copies of  "The First Ocicat - an Original Story", by Richard Tettmar, in booklet form at £3.50 plus post and packing.  There are also copies of 'The Guide to Owning an Ocicat' by Bill McKee.  This is an excellent book about Ocicats, with pictures of colours and patterns etc. for just £5.95 plus £1.50 postage and packing. Please Contact Rosemary Caunter if you would like a copy of either of these books..

Show kits (white blankets, trays, food dishes and water dishes) are available from Lucinda  Abbs, see address below.  The prices for the show kits is £7.50  but all will be "plus p&p".  Of course this is for the "single 24x24" blanket" - with the "double 48x48" size it would be £13.00.  as the blankets themselves are £5.50 & £11.00.
